Guardians of the Galaxy is Coming to Disneyland

Beginning in summer 2017, the outrageous and irreverent gang will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! – a comically high-energy, rocking new adventure at Disney California Adventure® Park at Disneyland® Resort. You will be right in the mix with characters from the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are trapped in customized display cases, suspended over a vast abyss. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help. Guests board a gantry lift, which launches them into a chaotic and hilarious adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to break his fellow Guardians out of captivity.

The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Disney California Adventure Park. This exciting new presence will transform the structure currently housing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ (scheduled to close in early 2017) into an epic new adventure, enhancing the breathtaking free fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. You will experience multiple random, unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift will rock to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opens summer 2017 at Disney California Adventure Park. Stay tuned for more details as the attraction develops as well as opportunities to celebrate The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ before it closes in early 2017.

Four Reasons To Visit Walt Disney World Resort During the Fall

Fall is my favorite time to visit Walt Disney World Resort.  First of all, the weather is, sometimes, cooler than the summer months.

Second, Magic Kingdom brings out its fall decor.  From larger than life pumpkins, to cute fall-themed wreaths hanging on the light posts to Mickey and Minnie in their fall garb and Halloween costumes - the decorations just hit it home for me.
Main Street USA dressed up in fall decorations.
Even the statues around Magic Kingdom get into the fall spirit!

Third, the amazing Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party held at the Magic Kingdom®!

This year there will be 29 select nights of "spooktacular" fun beginning Sept. 2, 2016!  During the party you can enjoy tons of Halloween fun such as trick-or-treat throughout the park, meeting your favorite Disney Characters (some even have their own Halloween costumes on!) and dressing up as your favorite Disney character!  Plus this year the party will welcome back last year’s  hit show “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular.”

Oh and another reason I love visiting Walt Disney World during the fall? On the nights Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is held there is a special “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade” and the “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks.  I swear HalloWishes is the best fireworks at the Magic Kingdom!

Good news for you? Tickets are still available! This year's party dates:
  • September 2, 8, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 29, 30.
  • October 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31.

The fourth reason I love going to Walt Disney World during the fall is getting to taste my way around the world at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival! This year's festival runs September 14 to November 14th.

This is the 21st year of the festival! Not only can you eat at over 30 food booths featuring food from around the world, there are wine and beverage seminars you can partake in; there are free nightly concerts; celebrity chef appearances and so much more!

You can experience all of the Walt Disney World fall fun this fall! Plus if you book now, you'll be able to enjoy it all and stay in the middle of the magic at one of the many Walt Disney World resorts as there is a fall room discount being offered! You can save as much as 25% off of your resort rate!  Email me, lauren@magicaltravel.com, to book your Fall Walt Disney World vacation today!

How to Keep Kids Entertained in Line at Walt Disney World!

Walt Disney World is a magical place. Full of wonder, delight, imagination and magic.

However, the lines at Walt Disney World tend not to be wonderful, delightful nor magical. Honestly, the aren’t fun for anyone. As adults we have come to learn how to keep ourselves occupied while in line. However, kiddos have a much harder time waiting – they want to run, play, and jump because that is what kids do.  Here are some of my suggestions on how to keep the kids, and your family, entertained while in line!

Play I Spy.  This is a game that requires your and your child's imagination and is generally good for all ages! You start with “I spy something that is (insert object you've spied)” and it goes from there.  Good things to spy are "Mickey Shaped", "the color of", etc.  Then your children have to ask yes or no questions trying to guess what it is that you’ve spied.  This works great with queues that have lots to look at and are have lots of open spaces. For example: “it’s a small world”; the Jungle Cruise; Finding Nemo; Expedition Everest; Kali River Rapids; Tower of Terror; Star Wars; Toy Story Mania; and Frozen Ever After to name just a few! This game is also great for kids whom are competitive because they will want their score of correct guesses higher than anyone else!'

Hidden Mickey’s. Walt Disney World is full of shapes that resemble a Mickey Mouse head outline (aka Hidden Mickeys).  Some are easy to find (i.e. a whole island at Disney's Animal Kingdom) to something itty bitty like a paint platter (all throughout the parks). But you can have a great time trying to see who can find the most Mickey's in one day! You can buy the Hidden Mickey book prior to your trip that you can take with you that will give you clues as to where they are in the park!
This Hidden Mickey was found on the Living with the Land attraction at Epcot.
Bubbles, silly putty, play doh, stickers, paper and crayons, and snack time! These are small toys/things that can be kept in a backpack and brought out as a surprise to keep kids entertained for the time while in line. When you get close, pack it up and get ready to ride! These are great for the younger kids who may not grasp the idea of playing the above games.

Head’s Up – Ellen Game App. This is a fun and hilarious game that Ellen started playing with her guests on her show, she has brought it to us with the app that we can play with our phones. One person holds the phone on their forehead (where they can't see the word that appears) showing the word to the other players and they have to give clues to the phone-holder as to what the word is. It is hilarious and is a great way to get everyone laughing! (Note the app does cost $0.99 but once you get to your Disney destination - there is a deck based on your Disney location - more Disney fun!

Make new friends! A great time distraction can be as simple as saying "Hi. How is your day going?" and asking people around you what they have done, where they have ate, etc. Most people are willing to interact with you because they are trying to distract themselves from the line too! I have met great people this way and have learned some cool Disney things this way too!

Maximize your FastPass+ selections! The minimal amount of time spent in line keeps everyone happy! Now that Walt Disney World Resort guests are no longer limited to 3 FastPass+ selections a day, families can really make the most out of their vacations by opting to get as many FastPasses as they can!

What are some of your tricks for keeping your family entertained while in line? Let me know in the comments!

My Disney App has new "Get Directions" Feature!

As of this week, the My Disney Experience app has a brand new feature! You can now navigate Walt Disney World® Resort with the help of the “Get Directions” feature!
The “Get Directions” feature will help you to conveniently navigate to your Walt Disney World destination whether walking or taking Walt Disney World Resort Transportation. Using GPS navigation, this new feature provides Guests with turn-by-turn walking directions to destinations across the Walt Disney World Resort including Theme Parks, Water Parks, select Walt Disney World Resort HotelsDisney Springs and many other locations such as Restrooms, Guest Services, shopping locations and more.
So you can now feel free to book that restaurant you've been hesitant to book in the past because you weren't sure of how to get there!  This brand new feature will help you get there! All you have to do is search for where you want to go in the app - for example I picked The California Grill a signature restaurant located at Disney's Contemporary Resort.
First step: Search for where you're going.
The search feature will pull up a list of places matching what you have searched. Select the place you want to go. For my search, the California Grill was listed first.
My search results.
When it opens up the locations page, there is a new icon "Get Directions" with a walking-man figure.
Locations now show the 'Get Directions' feature helping you find your way!
When you hit the "Get Directions" options, it will take you to a page where you'll have to enter your current location or turn on your location services.
Add your starting point.
Then the "Get Directions" feature will tell you how to get there!
Once your starting point is added, you'll get your directions!
From the Walt Disney World Swan I need to take a bus to Magic Kingdom then a Monorail to Disney's Contemporary
Directions on how to get to the California Grill from Walt Disney World Swan.
Just be sure to look up from your phone to avoid an accidents!
Another cool aspect of the “Get Directions” feature is that it will provides transportation route information to and from Parks and select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, along with bus, monorail and watercraft transit options.
