Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort: What to Know Before You Go

With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening next month at the Disneyland Resort, there is much to do to help prepare for your arrival. 

As a reminder, if you are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort between May 31 and June 23, 2019, a reservation and theme park admission are required. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels from May 31-June 23 will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest). Valid theme park admission is required. 

For those who are not staying in one of three Disneyland Resort hotels, specific details about how to make reservations will be available on May 2 at 8:00 AM PT. You must have a Disney Account on Disneyland.com to register for a reservation, so please create one before registration opens at 10:00AM PT on that day.

Guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay. One reservation per registered Guest. Each Guest is required to have valid theme park admission. If the hotel reservation is cancelled, the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation will be cancelled. Access to certain experiences in the land are subject to capacity and other factors. Additional restrictions apply.

Oga’s Cantina Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019

No self-respecting remote outpost on the edge of the galaxy would call itself a smuggler’s planet without a cantina, and Black Spire Outpost is no exception. Today, we have more details for Oga’s Cantina, which will be serving pilots, bounty hunters, smugglers, locals and galactic travelers alike, when it opens in 2019.

Visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell.

Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!

Musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ. As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job.

You will be able to listen to some unique music, taste the best drinks in the galaxy, and surround yourselves with a colorful cast of characters. You never know what will happen at the cantina!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

At the D23 Expo, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, revealed the official name of the Star Wars-inspired lands that are currently under construction at both Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts, and shared details on the immersive experiences you will be able to enjoy when the lands open in 2019.

The lands, both called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will allow you to visit a remote trading port on the edge of wild space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life – and where Guests will find themselves in the middle of the action.

The lands will feature two major attractions that put you in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Each attraction – and even the land itself – will offer you the chance to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe like never before.

One attraction will make Guests feel like they’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay. It’s an attraction built on a scale never done before. 

The second attraction will give you the opportunity to fly the Millenium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission. But how they perform on the mission holds even bigger stakes: perform with skill and they may earn extra galactic credits, while bringing the ship back banged up could put them on the list of a bounty hunter. End up on Harkos’s list and they may face a problem if they show up at the local cantina!

Guests will also encounter many familiar faces inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including BB-8, Chewbacca, members of the First Order and – among many others – Rex, the troublesome pilot fans may remember from the previous version of a certain Disney attraction who takes on a new role in this land as the DJ at the cantina.

And speaking of the cantina, here you will be able to try unique concoctions like blue milk. Nearby, they’ll also be able to acquire trinkets and treasures from across the galaxy.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in 2019, first at the Disneyland Resort and later in the year at the Walt Disney World Resort. (No further opening dates have been announced yet.)

Star Wars Land Opening Dates!!

Holy mouse - talk about BIG news!  Disney has announced that the new Star Wars-themed lands at BOTH Disneyland® Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios® in Florida will be opening in 2019! This is the first time we have heard of a date. There had been rumors (most of them with a date of 2021 and later) but nothing every official. Until now!

The Star Wars-themed lands are the largest-ever, single-themed land expansions at Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts. At each location, you will be transported to a never-before-seen planet – a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space – where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life. Here is previously released artwork that gives us a glimpse at one of the signature attractions which let us take the controls of the Millennium Falcon!
