Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure

When Pixar Pier opens June 23, 2018 at Disney California Adventure® Park, Guests will discover a new hot spot - Lamplight Lounge.  This seaside lounge will be an elegant yet fun gathering place for the whole family, located at the entrance of Pixar Pier. And it will still serve the Guest-favorite Lobster Nachos!

Lamplight Lounge will serve California casual gastro-pub cuisine that is playfully presented along with unique signature cocktails. This seaside lounge contains a full bar with picturesque waterfront views from both upstairs and downstairs. At night, outdoor seating provides views of the illuminated Pixar Pier and “World of Color.”

Renovated from an old warehouse factory, the location has kept many features of the original two-story building. The steel structural elements as well as concrete and brick walls were exposed and repaired to tell the story of its past. The original wood boards from the factory were refinished and given new life as ceiling panels and floors. The furniture style echoes a relaxed feel and the end result is an open, airy and bright place that is organic yet sophisticated.

Lamplight Lounge celebrates the creativity, inspirations and personalities of the artists and storytellers who have brought Pixar stories to life. Discover the artistic marks that the Pixar “regulars” have left throughout the lounge: concept art, a quick sketch on a napkin, knick-knacks and collectable toys of beloved Pixar characters will adorn the space.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Celebrates 20 Years

On April 22, 2019 Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park will celebrate its 20th anniversary - the day is also Earth Day! The park will have an expanded “Party for the Planet” celebration April 22 - May 5, 2018.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch will take center stage for the celebration, which will offer backstage experiences that allow you to learn about animal nutrition, visit the veterinary hospital, or hear how Disney promotes global wildlife conservation.

You can also commemorate the park's anniversary with special photo opportunities and kids can earn a limited-edition badge as part of the Wilderness Explorer program. Six different Tiffins Talks, themed-dinners hosted by animal experts at Tiffins full-service restaurant will be available to Guests who want to learn more about the animal residents at the park. And limited-edition merchandise will also be available for purchase, with one piece being a special-edition print created by renowned Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde. (He will be available to sign prints on April 22, 2018 from 1-4 p.m. at Discovery Trading Company. Quantities are limited). 

Other experiences coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this spring include:

• April 22 will mark the debut of a brand-new show, UP! A Great Bird Adventure featuring Russell and Dug from the Disney•Pixar animated comedy-adventure film “UP.” The show will give you the chance to see Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his fuzzy friend Dug in a new adventure that includes encounters with exotic birds from around the world. This free-flying show will be performed multiple times daily.

• A “dino-tastic” celebration with Donald and his friends will also premiere Memorial Day weekend in DinoLand, U.S.A. This dinosaur-themed party celebrates Donald Duck’s discovery that his bird ancestors were actually dinosaurs. DinoLand U.S.A. will feature colorful new décor and playful character greetings with rarely seen pals like Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack and more. A DJ-powered dance party will mix tunes from the truck-o-saurus stage, capping the nighttime festivities.

• Memorial Day 2018 commemorates the one-year anniversary of Pandora – The World of Avatar. Here, travelers are transported to a mystical world of floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests and breathtaking new experiences. Inspired by the blockbuster film, AVATAR, the epic land invites guests to explore a glowing landscape, encounter a larger-than-life Na’vi Shaman of Songs and soar on the back of a banshee.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom® will debut a new show “UP! A Great Bird Adventure,” featuring Russell and Dug from Disney•Pixar’s “UP” on April 22, 2018!

Toy Story Land Opens June 30th!

We finally know when the highly-anticipated Toy Story Land will open!!!! This brand new land at Walt Disney World will open to Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios® June 30, 2018!

When it opens, Guests visiting Toy Story Land will “shrink” to the size of a toy and join in on the fun Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and Andy’s other beloved toys are having in Andy’s backyard. Here, you can take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit and topped off with Slinky and Jessie. (Check out the time-lapse video below of one of Slinky Dog Dash’s first test runs).

Families will also be able to take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, a galactic play set that Andy won from Pizza Planet. Here, adorable little green aliens swirl about in their flying saucers with guests in tow in their rocket ship toys, while “The Claw” hangs overhead.

You will also walk through a new carnival game box to experience Toy Story Mania!, which has been a Guest-favorite attraction at the park since it opened in 2008. Now expanded with a third track, the popular attraction will put even more Guests in the action taking aim at 3D objects – using everything from baseballs to cream pies – in a variety of whimsical, fast-paced games.

Woody’s Lunch Box – actually, Andy’s lunch box that he’s set on its side – will serve up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats from a walk-up window setting. The entire land will serve as a visual celebration of toys, with Crayons, Cooties, Green Army Men, Rubik’s Cubes, Tinkertoys, and other familiar toys and game pieces incorporated into the land’s design.

Adventures by Disney has a new Destination!

Adventures by Disney® has an exciting announcement: A new Japan vacation is coming in 2019! The trip will offer immersive, cultural experiences, such as visiting temples in Kyoto, learning sword techniques with a master samurai, exploring the bustling city of Tokyo and more.

Pixar Pier Opening Date

Pixar Pier will open June 23, 2018 at Disney California Adventure® Park. This reimagined land will feature four whimsical neighborhoods representing beloved Pixar stories with newly themed attractions, foods and merchandise. Guests will enter Pixar Pier through a new marquee, pictured above, which will be topped by the iconic Pixar lamp later in the year.

The June 23 opening of Pixar Pier will also include the Incredicoaster – a super combination of character figures, lighting and special effects that will bring the Parr family racing alongside you in a high-speed adventure.

Also coming in June is a dazzling new float for the popular “Paint the Night” parade featuring Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone from “The Incredibles.” This new float will bring all of the fun and excitement of the Incredibles’ world to life with high-tech, pop-art effects inspired by the mid-century-modern style of the films. Dynamic and innovative visual technology will also bring Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack to life, showcasing their powers in surprising ways!

“Paint the Night” Parade makes its Disney California Adventure Park debut when the first-ever Pixar Fest celebration begins throughout the Disneyland Resort on April 13, 2018.

Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster at Epcot

At the D23 Expo Japan news was shared about the highly-anticipated “Guardians of the Galaxy”-themed attraction coming to Epcot at Walt Disney World – and yes, it’s a roller coaster!

This “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired coaster is going big. This one-of-a-kind family attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters when it’s added to Future World at Epcot®. It’ll feature a unique story currently being created by Walt Disney Imagineering and include a new innovative ride system that’s guaranteed to “wow” Guests.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired coaster is part of the ongoing work to transform Epcot into a place that’s more family, more relevant, more timeless and more Disney.  “As we build upon its core mission of optimism and hope to inspire the world, the real will become fantastic and the fantastic will become real—in whole new ways at Epcot,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, said. 

The attraction will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.

New Details about the Star Wars Resort

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

The first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, is opening in 2019 – and there are new details to share! 

During D23 Expo Japan, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced the opening year and showed how they are pulling out all of the stops to make Mickey’s first attraction an unbelievable experience for everyone. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new catchy theme song created especially for the attraction as well as a new experience that defies logic that is being called 2 ½-D. No glasses required. 

On the attraction, the fun begins when Guests see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie getting ready for a picnic. As you head out, you'll drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment lets you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky, wild ride. 

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will put you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short as the star and anything can happen. 

The teams helping create the attraction are currently working with partners at Disney Television Animation—the people who create the popular and award-winning Mickey Shorts – to keep the characters and story authentic and to make sure you’re able to step through the movie screen and join Mickey and his friends like never before.

Pixar Coming to Both Disney Parks

For more than 20 years, Disney Parks has partnered with Pixar to bring their compelling stories and beloved characters to life for Guests visiting our parks – and this year even more Pixar is coming very soon to both Disney Parks.

Beginning April 13, 2018, the first-ever Pixar Fest will be a celebration of friendship and beyond throughout the Disneyland® Resort. Pixar Fest will feature the debut of the all-new “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular,” the return of “Paint the Night” parade and Pixar Play Parade as well as even more beloved Pixar characters, new décor, atmosphere entertainment, themed food and beverage and new merchandise items. Opening during Pixar Fest, the newly reimagined Pixar Pier will bring new, whimsical neighborhoods inspired by “The Incredibles,” “Inside Out” and even more favorite pals from “Toy Story.”  The centerpiece of Pixar Pier will be the new Incredicoaster, a super combination of character figures, lighting and special effects that will bring the Parr family racing alongside riders in an attempt to catch baby Jack-Jack.

At Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
At Walt Disney World® Resort, get ready to join their “Incredible Summer” celebration. At Magic Kingdom® Park, Guests can visit Tomorrowland to party with characters from “The Incredibles” – including for the first time, fashionista Edna Mode. Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park – just in time for the park’s 20th anniversary – a new show inspired by “Up” will star Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his furry-friend Dug.

Toy Story Land is also set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer. When it opens, Guests visiting this new land will “shrink” to the size of a toy and join in on the fun Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and Andy’s other beloved toys are having in Andy’s backyard. Here, guests can take a ride on the Slinky Dog Dash family coaster, take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, or visit a playful guest-favorite – Toy Story Mania!

In Epcot’s World Showcase at the France Pavilion an attraction  inspired by “Ratatouille” is coming! This attraction will be patterned after the experience in Disneyland Paris. In it, guests will shrink down to the size of Remy and join him on a crazy race through Gusteau’s kitchen and restaurant.  Ratatouille is already the number one-family attraction at Disneyland Paris and will be a great addition to Epcot.

Fast & Furious – Supercharged at Universal Orlando

You’ve seen the cars. You’ve seen the action. And soon, you’ll be able to live it. One of the most successful film franchises of all-time will soon become one of Universal Orlando Resort‘s most action-packed ride experiences. 

Go inside the high-stakes world of Fast & Furious for a full-throttle, high-octane experience. Meet up with the family, but then an enemy from the past shows up and a wild chase ensues. It’s up to Dom, Letty, Hobbs and the rest of the crew to save the day in this action-packed new ride. Fast & Furious – Supercharged™ coming to Universal Studios Florida™ Spring 2018.

Universal has world closely with the man behind the cars for the Fast & Furious films, to craft 15 authentic cars for this attraction.It will be the only place you’ll find these vehicles, including Dom’s iconic Dodge Charger, Letty’s Turbo Truck and more.

Fast & Furious – Supercharged will feature the Virtual Line system. All you need to do is select your ride time via the kiosks near the ride entrance or the Universal app and select your ride time. While you wait, you can check out the other attractions at Universal Studios.
