Halloween Fun at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort

Spooky fun and full of delight, the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort have terrifyingly tasty treats, amazing displays and ghostly entertainment, all sure-fire ways for you to extend your Halloween Time experience, before, during or after a great day at the parks.



Enjoy the Spook-tacular Seasonal Decor: In the lobby of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is a “spook-tacular” edible display of Halloween pumpkins. These pumpkins take a ghoulish form with Oogie Boogie, and are built from cereal treats, icing, chocolate, and fondant. The talented pastry chefs used over 200 pounds of icing, 100 pounds of chocolate, and 300 pounds of fondant to create these incredible pumpkins.

Also during Halloween Time, experience ghoulish décor surrounding the Disneyland Hotel and discover the swashbuckler in you at the pirate-themed Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. The pirates have hoisted the Jolly Roger flag in the lobby, calling all buccaneers for fun at “Pirates Pier”!



Exclusive Trick-or-Treating for Hotel Guests: On select afternoons from October 2 through October 31, overnight guests of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are invited to drop in for a howling good time and exclusive, complimentary trick-or-treat festivities. Together, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will have a treat map of locations, so little ghosts and goblins (and their parents) can visit all three hotels. The hotels are offering activities such as coloring pages, bat mask decorating and create-your-own pirate hat. Cookie decorating kits are also available for a fee. Hotel guests are encouraged to sign up at the Guest Services desk.



Taste Yummy Halloween Treats: At Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, you will find a holiday cart in the lobby serving up some scary and sweet Mickey-shaped cookies featuring iconic Halloween-inspired decorations. This cart is also serving up Halloween whoopie pies, jumbo cake pops, pretzel rods, a cookie box with Witch Finger cookies, and pumpkin pound cake. At The Coffee House at the Disneyland Hotel, you'll find a chocolate Bat Cookie. Across all three hotels, the Red Poison Apple Glow Cube can be found at restaurant or quick service locations. The flavors of fall have arrived as well, with Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Surfside Lounge at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and Pumpkin Muffins at The Coffee House at the Disneyland Hotel.



Check out Eerie Musical Entertainment: Ghostly a capella performers, the Skeletones and the Cryptix, stroll and perform throughout the hotels of the Disneyland Resort, as well the Scareolers in Downtown Disney. Enjoy harmonizing tunes such as “I Put a Spell on You” and “Grim Grinning Ghosts.”

Caribbean-Inspired Eats Coming to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World Resort has been undergoing some construction projects that include explading Centertown Market as well as updating the pool-side bar now called Banana Cabana!

First up, details on Centertown Market – the resort's quick-service restaurant has been expanded and reimagined as an indoor street market. The new space includes open shutters, wooden light posts, awnings, and most importantly, delicious new eats. The new menu at Centertown Market will include a combination of family-friendly fast casual offerings mixed with customizable Latin and Caribbean-inspired dishes. One of the highlights of the menu is the new Island Bowl available for breakfast and dinner.

The Island Bowls can be customized with a choice of base, protein, and sauce. For breakfast bowls, Guests can choose what kind of egg they want on top (scrambled, poached, or tofu scramble). Bases include red beans and rice (offered all day), home fries (for breakfast), and greens (for dinner). For proteins, Guests can choose between rotisserie beef, bacon, chorizo, or plant-based sausage for breakfast; and rotisserie beef, pork shoulder, banana leaf-wrapped fish, jerk chicken thighs, or vegan chipotle seitan for dinner! Breakfast sauce options include salsa verde or pico de gallo, while the dinner sauces include chimichurri, garlic ranch, or spicy pink sauce. 

On the breakfast menu are classic dishes like Eggs Benedict or the All American Breakfast Platter with eggs, home fries, sausage, bacon, and toast as well as island-inspired creations like Coconut Waffles with fresh fruit or the Banana Pancakes topped with granola and pineapple chunks and served with sausage and maple syrup.

Fresh salads, Sicilian-style pizza, pasta dishes, and a variety of sandwiches and burgers round out the dinner menu to provide a little something for everyone in the family!

Sweets include the Tropical Tart with key lime, mango, and passion fruit curd with Chantilly or the Chocolate Crème Tart with chocolate cake, coffee Chantilly, and caramel crispies.

There’s also a wonderful array of options for kids! Kids will enjoy familiar favorites like Pirate Mickey Waffles and French Toast for breakfast; and Chicken Breast Nuggets, Tacos, and Grilled Cheese for dinner. For adventurous little sailors, there are some unique new offerings like the Egg Popper for breakfast (a hard-boiled egg pop with green pirate juice, roasted pineapple, and bacon) and the Beef and Mushroom-blended Cheeseburger for dinner (with “cauli” fries, orange sauce, and a mini “build-your-own” Island Bowl).

The expansive beverage island will offer fountain beverages featuring Coca-Cola® Freestyle, freshly-brewed coffee, and a variety of teas as well as draft beer and single-serve wine and cocktails. Or Guests can step inside the Grab ‘n Go Market, where they'll find delightful specialty coffees and quick bites to-go.

Now – let’s talk about the Banana Cabana! The pool-side bar will feature an outdoor lounge where families can gather for yummy food and refreshing beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The lounge is inspired by the festive culture found in the Caribbean, mixing a relaxed sitting area with a lively bar. Cabana-style drapes flank the seating groups and re-purposed steel drums will illuminate a central communal table made from a wooden boat.

The exclusive cocktails will be made with premium spirits. Delightfully-flavored libations include the Pink Guava Colada featuring rum, guava puree, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut and the Kraken Punch with spiced rum, blood orange sour, and pomegranate and orange juices. Caribbean beers will also be available for islanders along with a variety of craft and traditional beers and premium white and red wines on tap.

For non-alcoholic options, adventures await Guests with drinks made with fruit juices and tropical flavors. One of these drinks is the Tropical Paradise, a fruity blend of pineapple coconut, cinnamon, and lime dusted with nutmeg.

Centertown Market and Banana Cabana are set to open in late Fall of 2018 and are part of the greater reimagining of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruise - Daily Excursion Spotlight

As I've recently posted, we will be heading on our first Adventures by Disney vacation soon (the River Cruise starts next Monday!). One of the many great things about Adventures by Disney vacations is that all of your activities are included - all tickets and admissions to events and attractions; entrance fees; and more are included! Not only are they included with the cost of the adventure, these activities are more often than not a VIP Premium experience. Meaning, the daily activities are usually private, unique experiences that you won't have to wait in line to experience! 

As I've previously mentioned, we are going on the Rhine River Cruise: Food and Wine sailing. Here are the adventures we were able to select from for our specific sailing.
 

Here are more details about these activities:

Basel, Switzerland. Day 1. No activities are offered as this is the day we board the River Cruise ship!

Strasbourg, France. Day 2L Two half day activities are offered.

• Option 1: Riquewihr Food and Wine Tasting Tour.  Explore the vineyards that produce some of the most noted wines in the world. Taste some of the great wines produced including the Riesling, which Riquewihr is known for.
• We are all doing this option.
• Option 2: On Your Own in Strasbourg.  Explore the city including visiting the Gothic Strabourg Cathédrale, many museums, shops and cafe in this city.

Strasbourg, France. Day 3: Two morning options and two more afternoon options.

• Morning Option 1: Canal Boat Tour and Visit to Strabourg Cathédrale.  Tour the city on the Batorama Canal Boat. Then visit Strasbourg Cathedral de Notre Dame, built in 1439 in the grand Gothic style, with Renaissance-era stained-glass windows and a famous astronomical clock created in 1843.
• My parents are doing this activity.
• Morning Option 2: Alsace Canoe Trip. Enjoy a scenic canoe trip paddling on the Alsace waterways.
• My husband and I are doing this activity in the morning.
• Afternoon Option 1: Macaron Baking Class. Learn how to make delicious French macarons from the respected local chef on board the ship.
• Afternoon Option 2: Wine Caves in the Cave Historique Des Hospices. In this wine museum, 40 ancient wine barrels mark the history of the region—one containing wine from 1472.  Enjoy an Alsatian wine tasting.
• We are all doing this option. 

Mannheim, Germany. Day 4: There is an all-day option or two half day options.

• Full Day Option: Porche Museum and Mercedes-Benz Museum with Lunch. Learn the history of these 2 legendary automobile companies. 
• Half Day Option 1: Visit Heidelberg Castle. Learn the history of this fortress and home of royalty. Afterwards, explore Heidelberg, Germany's oldest and most renowned university town.
• We are all doing this option. 
• Half Day Option 2: On Your Own in Mannheim. Explore the city located that is home to the world’s first bicycle and motorcar, as well as some beautiful parks.

Rüdesheim, Germany. Day 5: Two activities to do either in the morning or afternoon.

• Option 1: Biking on your own. Bike throught Rüdesheim and the surrounding wine country that is the birthplace of acclaimed pinot noir and Riesling wines.
• My husband is doing this with my sister. 
• Option 2: Adolf Störzel Vineyards. Walk amongst the grapes that produce some of the region’s most unforgettable wines. Then, enjoy a wine tasting accompanied by soft pretzels inside the Bassenheimer Hof’s cellar.
• I am doing this with my parents.

Cologne, Germany. Day 6: Choice of 3 half-day activities.

• Option 1: Cologne Walking Tour, visit to Cathedral and Fragrance museum. Explore the 2,000 year old city including the Cologne Cathedral. A privately guided tour learning the history of fragrance and how German eau de cologne is made.
• My parents will be enjoying this daily activity.
• Option 2: Cologne Walking Tour, visit to Cathedral and Chocolate museum. Explore the 2,000 year old city including the Cologne Cathedral. Create your own chocolate bar at the Chocolate Museum.
• Option 3: Cologne Pub Tour. Take the Cologne Pub Tour and explore the fine beers of the region.
• This is what my husband and I will be doing.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Day 7: Choice of two morning activities and

• Morning Option 1: The Rijksmuseum. Housed in over 150 rooms in an impressive, gold-leaf building, magnificent fifteenth 15th to 17th century paintings are on display—masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, among others. 
• This is what may parents are doing.
• Morning Option 2: Explore The Van Gogh Museum. With over 1,000 paintings, drawings and letters of Vincent Van Gogh. Get an intimate view of some of his greatest masterpieces, including "Sunflowers" and "The Bedroom."
• This is what my husband and I are doing
• Afternoon Option 1: Tour the classic fishing village of Volendam. With its beautiful harbor home to old fishing boats and residents who still wear traditional clothing such as pointed bonnets.
• This is what my parents are doing.
• Afternoon Option 2:  Visit the community of Zaanse Schans. Appearing as if it's straight out of a child's storybook, with iconic wooden windmills and other structures that have been moved and reassembled here to bring the history of this area to life. 
• Afternoon Option 3: Tour Amsterdam on your own.
• This is what my husband and I are doing, planning to 'rent' some of the bikes available on the ship!

Dining Enhancements Coming to Disneyland Resort Hotels

At the Disneyland® Resort two hotel fast-casual food spots are getting spruced up, also a gorgeous new bar seating area is being added for pool goers and hotel Guests.

Tangaroa Terrace, the South Seas hideaway at the Disneyland Hotel, is closing soon and will re-open in early 2019 as Tangaroa Terrace Bar & Grill. The restaurant’s ‘50s Tiki-inspired design, however, will remain the perfect tropical complement to the mid-century modern architecture of the Disneyland Hotel. Guests can expect a new outdoor bar and refreshed patio, serving island cocktails and Asian-inspired fare. New details will also be added to the interior space, including light fixtures made of colorful fishing floats and netting, a tropical mural and bamboo accents. Guests will also be delighted to find a dedicated service window for various coffee selections in the morning and the popular Dole Whip throughout the day, perfect while enjoying time at the pools. The grill will offer options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an open-air marketplace for quick bites. While Tangaroa Terrace is under refurbishment, menu offerings will be available at The Coffee House, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Steakhouse 55.

White Water Snacks at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will also close soon and re-open later this year with a fresh new look. In the meantime, Hearthstone Lounge will offer grab-and-go food and beverage options.

Guests of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will also be able to lounge in even more luxury, poolside, with a new pool bar opening in spring 2019. As you can see in the artwork above, the new pool bar area will keep with the hotel’s signature Arts and Crafts design with natural boulder stonework and clinker bricks. A custom tile mural at the back bar will also set the craftsman tone in the new space. In addition, a trellis structure will provide shade and a perfect respite to enjoy sipping beverages and snacking on appetizers. A variety of new lounge and table seating will also be available.

Disney After Hours - More Dates!

Disney After Hours has been a huge hit with guests looking to maximize their time at Magic Kingdom® Park when the sun goes down. And as of today, there are new dates available to purchase tickets for this exclusive event! New dates run from December 3, 2018 to March 7, 2019!

During this special ticketed event Guests can get in as early as 7:00 p.m. to experience the Happily Ever After fireworks before hitting more than 25 attractions and experiences with little to no wait! 

Here are the new dates and times:

• December 3: 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.
• December 10: 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.
• January 7: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
• January 17: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
• January 24: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
• January 28: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
• February 7: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Vampirina Arrives at Disney Parks This Weekend!

Vampirina (aka “Vee”), that lovable girl vampire from the hit Disney Junior series “Vampirina,” is making her Disney Parks debut this weekend, so here is a look at this fangtastic new Disney character at the parks!

Vampirina is stopping by Disneyland® Resort for Halloween Time, meeting fans at Disney California Adventure® Park and getting ready to make a special appearance in the “Frightfully Fun Parade” during Mickey’s Halloween Party.

Also, Vampirina is on her way to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort! During the party, you can show off your best dance moves with Vee and other favorite Disney Junior pals at the all-new Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam.

New Centertown Market at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

When Old Port Royale reopens at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort this fall, you will be able to check in and embark on an island-inspired vacation with new places to gather, dine and relax, including the newly expanded Centertown Market. Designed as an indoor street market-style quick service restaurant, Centertown Market is full of colors and details from the Caribbean.

Imagineers researched the variety of festivals found throughout the Caribbean islands and these celebrations served as the inspiration for the colorful, hand-painted mural found at the heart of Centertown Market. We caught up with some of the Imagineers as they were bringing this mural to life. 

According to Walt Disney Imagineering, you may find a mural like this in a local marketplace building in the Caribbean. The mural depicts a street parade complete with music, dance and lavish costume pieces made from feathers and colorful hand-cut and fringed crepe paper.

Don’t forget about the all-new table service restaurant, Sebastian’s Bistro, for additional colorful details, including a screen of hand-painted fishing floats at the restaurant’s entrance.
