All-New ‘Magic Happens’ Parade to Debut in Spring 2020

More news from the D23 Expo 2019! Bob Chapek, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products shared details about the next generation of animated stories they're bringing to life – starting at the Disneyland® Resort!

Debuting in spring 2020, the all-new, extraordinary “Magic Happens” parade will travel down Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland® Park.

Celebrating awe-inspiring moments of magic—both large and small—that are at the heart of so many Disney stories, “Magic Happens” reminds us we don’t need wings to fly, shooting stars were made to wish upon, and magic doesn’t stop at midnight.

This daytime spectacular will feature stunning floats, beautiful costumes, and beloved Disney characters – all led by Mickey Mouse and his pals.

On her voyager wa‘a (or canoe), Moana journeys forth on the crest of a beautiful wave, inspired by beautiful koa wood carvings inset with LED panels, providing a dazzling glimpse into the magic the ocean holds.

Celebrating the magic that happens when Miguel strums the guitar of Ernesto de la Cruz, the spectacular float inspired by the Disney and Pixar film “Coco” bridges the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead with vibrant marigolds. Fantastical alebrije spirit animals join the procession, along with Miguel’s dog Danté.

The regal grand finale of “Magic Happens” parade celebrates magical moments from classic Disney stories, including the trio of fairies from “Sleeping Beauty” who transform Princess Aurora’s gown from pink to blue and back again!

In addition, the parade will feature ​even more floats and characters, an energetic musical score and a new song produced in partnership with singer-songwriter Todrick Hall. The high-energy music combines this original song with classic Disney tunes in a fresh, contemporary style.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Coming to Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway—the first major Mickey-themed ride-through attraction—is coming to both Disneyland® Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios® in Florida. At the D23 Expo 2019 this past weekend, Bob Chapek, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products released a few more exciting details and sneak peeks!

At Disneyland Park, the attraction will be opening in Mickey’s Toontown in 2022. The action takes place at the El CapiTOON Theater, where Mickey and Minnie are premiering their newest short, “Perfect Picnic.” Before you enter the cinema, experience a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society featuring costumes and props from the toon world.  

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Imagineers are getting ready to open this attraction next year. The Chinese Theatre, which serves as the magic portal through which theatergoers will step from the human world directly into the cartoon world for one Goofy adventure aboard Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway!

World of Color’ Nighttime Spectacular – ‘Villainous!’, Debuting at Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure Park

Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party, the new separate-ticket party in Disney California Adventure® Park, begins September 17 for 20 select nights. Be treated to an unforgettable night of Halloween fun packed with exclusive new experiences and entertainment, including the new “World of Color” show – “Villainous!” 

Oogie Boogie (from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas”) weaves a Halloween tale about a young girl (and all-new character created by Disney animator Eric Goldberg) named Shelley Marie. 

In “Villainous!,” Shelley has a decision to make about her Halloween costume for this year, and finds herself wondering if she could really be as strong and unique as some of her favorite Disney villains. This twisted tale carries Shelley on an unforgettable journey through devious encounters with The Queen, Ursula, Dr. Facilier, Hades, Jafar, Maleficent and more

Enjoy watching the villainous side of Disney characters through fountains, lights, lasers, projections and special effects. “Villainous!” shows you that, deep down, there’s a little villain in all of us.

Oogie Boogie Bash, which takes the place of Mickey’s Halloween Party, will feature other new experiences – including an interactive “Descendants”-inspired dance party, a stage show with Mickey Mouse, and a mysterious Disney villains walk-through experience.

Over the past couple of years, the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort has undergone an incredible transformation with new additions, refurbishments, and more. With all of these exciting changes, here's a look at all of the new and existing restaurants you can find throughout the shopping, dining, and entertainment district. With so much to choose from, you’ll never go hungry when spending an afternoon in Anaheim! 

Don't forget, some of these popular locations take reservations, so be sure to book in advance! 

NEW DINING LOCATIONS

Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes and CrazyShake Window by Black Tap

Take a bite out of a mouthwatering burger or sip on one of the restaurant’s famous CrazyShake milkshakes at Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes. With an atmosphere that will bring you back to the old-school days of hip-hop and pop, this brand-new bistro offers a savory selection of craft burgers as well as chicken sandwiches, wings, salads, vegan burgers, and veggies. Starships Have Landed at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland® Park will transport you to a galaxy far, far away. While on the planet Batuu, you may spot some iconic starships and vehicles up-close. Here’s what you may encounter:

A-wing Starfighter

With its sleek arrowhead shape, streamlined cockpit and massive twin engines, the A-wing suggests raw speed. Used first by the Rebel Alliance and now the Resistance, it is well suited for quick strikes. You can find the A-Wing Starfighter at the Resistance encampment.

First Order TIE echelon

A new assault vehicle in the TIE (twin ion engine) series, this echelon shuttle is used by the First Order mainly for small troop and cargo transport. You can see this starship at the First Order Cargo area.

Landspeeders

There are two models of speeders in for repairs in the garage at Black Spire Station: a X-34 model like the one Luke Skywalker used on Tatooine, and a Jakku speeder, built from scavenged parts.

Millennium Falcon

Once flown by iconic smuggler Han Solo and his Wookiee first mate, Chewbacca, and more recently by Rey, the Millennium Falcon is sometimes lovingly referred to as “the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.” The YT-1300 Corellian freighter is located at the Spaceport and is currently being loaned to Hondo Ohnaka, the former pirate who owns and operates Ohnaka Transport Solutions.

Sienar-Chall Utilipede Transport

Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs uses this modified shuttle as a mobile kitchen and restaurant, jumping from one planet to the next as a “traveling diner for diners traveling.” It is currently atop Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo in Black Spire Outpost.

X-wing Starfighter

A versatile ship balancing speed and firepower, the X-wing is a nimble starfighter used in dogfights first by the Rebel Alliance and now the Resistance. Its name comes from the “X” its four wings create when they’re locked in attack position. Take a closer look at the X-wing Starfighter at the Resistance encampment.

Disneyland Resort Celebrates America with Patriotic Fanfare

Beginning when he was a young boy, after learning about President Abraham Lincoln, Walt Disney developed a sense of patriotism that stayed with him throughout his lifetime. At Disneyland Park, Main Street, U.S.A., inspired by Walt Disney’s childhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri, honors America with red, white and blue décor, serving as the gateway and backdrop for patriotic memories. 

Guests looking to showcase their patriotism with a Disney flair, will find Americana-inspired merchandise for a limited time at Emporium and at Pioneer Mercantile in Disneyland Park; at Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure Park; and at World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District. Festive items include Spirit Jerseys, t-shirts, dresses, Minnie Ears, light-up necklaces, place settings and more.

Capture a moment with Mickey Mouse in his patriotic finest! You can find him in Town Square from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

To underscore America’s Birthday at Disneyland Park on July 4 only, “Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will animate the night with star-spangled spirit to the sounds of patriotic songs.

From Disneyland Railroad, to Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, to Frontierland and Mark Twain Riverboat, to the flag retreat ceremony saluting visiting members of the armed forces, America is celebrated daily throughout Disneyland. 

There’s more! Here’s what else you will find throughout the resort:

At Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, on July 4 only, from 3-10 p.m., Guests will discover a Fourth of July family BBQ at the rooftop The Sand Bar, with live music starting at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks from Disneyland Park at 9:30 p.m. A special a la carte menu will feature short rib brisket burgers, all-beef hot dogs, street corn on the cob and specialty drinks. Complimentary family activities and face painting are also in store. Subject to availability. This offering is open to the public and does not require a hotel reservation.

At Disneyland Hotel, on July 4 only, from 12:00-4:00 p.m., hotel guests of all ages can get in the patriotic spirit with family activities, live music, complimentary face painting, caricatures and tasty delights on the hotel’s Magic Kingdom Lawn. Subject to availability.

At the Downtown Disney® District, Guests will discover an array of patriotic offerings. For patriotic wear, you can visit Curl Surf. For the Frozen Cherry Boba Lemonade, drop in Wetzel’s Pretzels, and for the Firecracker Cocktail, check out Splitsville Luxury Lanes. Hungry? There's also Berry Ice Creams at Salt & Straw, or a 4th of July Box and Americana Mini Sampler at Sprinkles. For a decadent dessert, your Clients can try the Red, White & Blue Cake Shake from Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes. How’s that for a fun stroll around the neighborhood?

Brunch Now Available at Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure Park

On Saturdays and Sundays, Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure is now serving up brunch in the downstairs dining room. Sit back and relax while they taking in the views of Pixar Pier and indulge in a delicious brunch menu featuring a variety of unique dishes and cocktails. 

One of the favorite dishes on the menu is the Indulgent French Toast with cinnamon-brown sugar challah bread, Irish cream whip, maple syrup, and macerated berries garnished with a crunchy piece of house-made almond brittle. For a little protein, take a bite out of the Brunch Burger, which features a grilled custom burger blend served with American cheese, one egg, roasted green chile, lettuce, and paprika aïoli on a toasted Amish bun. If eggs are more your style, then the Crab and Potato Cake Benedict or the Egg White Frittata Bake are for you. The Crab and Potato Cake Benedict comes with sautéed spinach, soft poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise, and fresh fruit. And the Egg White Frittata Bake features hen of the woods mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, roasted peppers and onions, smoked salmon, goat cheese sour cream, avocado, and confit potatoes.

Other entrées include Potato Flautas and Lamplight Chilaquiles. The Potato Flautas are made with plant-based chorizo, vegan piquillo crema, serrano-tomatillo salsa, arugula salad, and escabèche. The Lamplight Chilaquiles feature house-made tortilla chips with cheddar-jack cheese, two eggs, queso fresco, red onions, cilantro-serrano sour cream, and sliced avocado, topped with a 3-chile red sauce and pepitas. 

Also try the New York Avocado Toast with sourdough, avocado mash, New York Steak, one egg, piquillo-butter sauce, arugula salad, pickled red onions, and confit potatoes.

And we can’t forget the kiddos! On the Budding Artists menu, kids can choose from a Brunch Quesadilla or an Omelet (both served with egg whites and cheddar-jack cheese), a smaller portion of the Indulgent French Toast, or a Mini Brunch Burger.

For the adults, hand-crafted specialty beverages include options such as the Beermosa with blood orange IPA and fresh orange juice and a Cinnamon Toast Cocktail with vanilla vodka, hazelnut and cream liqueurs, and cinnamon cereal-infused milk. For a savory beverage, the Morning Glory comes with vodka, spicy Bloody Mary mix, dill pickle brine, and a dash of celery bitters. Of course, what brunch would be complete without MIMOSAS? Try a variety of seasonal flavors with the Mimosa Flight, featuring classic orange juice mimosas as well as versions with mango, watermelon, and more!

Lamplight Lounge Brunch occurs on Saturdays and Sundays only from park open to noon in the downstairs dining room.
