Lunar New Year Celebration Expands at Disney California Adventure Park

The biggest Lunar New Year Celebration yet at Disney California Adventure® Park is coming soon to the Disneyland® Resort! Expanding to 17 days this year – Friday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 – the festivities will feature delicious food, colorful live performances, fun-filled activities, beautiful decor, special limited-time merchandise, Disney characters in their Lunar New Year best and more.

Each night, before “World of Color,” the Lunar New Year Celebration will culminate in a new six-minute pre-show called “Hurry Home,” presented in water, animation and special effects on Paradise Bay. This charming story of a Little Lantern on its journey home to join its Lantern family in celebrating Lunar New Year features animated appearances by Mulan and Mushu in “dream sequences” inspired by traditional Chinese paper cut-out style animation and a score highlighted by an original arrangement of the music created for the Grand Opening of Shanghai Disney Resort by Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).

Lunar New Year, traditionally celebrated within Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures, commemorates the moment when both the sun and the moon begin their journey for another year. Highlights of the celebration at Disney California Adventure Park include:

• Three new Asian marketplaces offering foods inspired by Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures.
• Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Mulan and Mushu, dressed in their best to celebrate Lunar New Year.
• Incredible entertainment throughout the Paradise Garden area, including a troupe of Chinese acrobats and a variety of authentic musicians and performers.

Favorites Return to Disneyland This Fall

This fall, two favorite nighttime spectaculars will return to Disneyland® Resort, as the dazzling Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration comes to a close on September 5.

At Disney California Adventure® Park, the original version of “World of Color” will be presented, beginning September 6.  Enjoy all the great sequences of Disney animation and music, from WALL-E and Eve zipping through the cosmos to Pocahontas exploring just around the riverbend.


Across the Esplanade at Disneyland Park, you will once again be able to enjoy the timeless soundtrack of Disney’s “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks spectacular when it lights up the sky over Sleeping Beauty Castle Friday through Sunday evenings starting September 9. Versions of “Fantasy in the Sky” date back to 1958, when Walt Disney envisioned the show as a spectacular “kiss goodnight” for his Disneyland guests.

“World of Color” and “Fantasy in the Sky” will each be presented through the early November kickoff of Holidays at the Disneyland Resort.

The new “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” immerses Disney California Adventure® Park Guests in the emotional story of Anna and Elsa in an exciting theatrical interpretation for the stage, including elaborate costumes and sets, stunning special effects, show-stopping production numbers and some unique surprises.
2. On Soarin' Around the World at Disney California Adventure® Park, you can take flight on an all-new adventure to exciting destinations.
3. The fun-filled Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, new in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park, is rolling with fun as Luigi’s cugini (or family) have come from Carsoli, Italy, to help celebrate Race Day in Radiator Springs. You can join in the fun by hopping aboard miniature Italian roadsters, in the style of late 1950s micro cars. The cars perform the traditional dances of their village, moving to upbeat music and Luigi’s singing in a precision-choreographed dance across a trackless “dance floor.”
4. In Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, Star Wars Launch Bay invites Guests to discover authentic replicas of film props and encounter Star Wars characters such as Chewbacca and Kylo Ren.
5. The Star Wars-themed transformation of Space Mountain into Hyperspace Mountain thrusts you into an X-wing battle as they race through the darkness. The experience is enhanced by a new soundtrack, inspired by the Star Wars films’ musical themes and re-orchestrated to match every move in the attraction.
6. At Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, you can encounter a new adventure and characters from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” while journeying aboard a Starspeeder 1000.
7. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to see the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration dazzle and shine before the celebration ends Sept. 5, 2016.
8. The sparkling “Paint the Night” parade builds on the tradition of breathtaking nighttime parades in Disneyland Park that began with the “Main Street Electrical Parade.” Illuminated almost entirely by LED lights, “Paint the Night” is a state-of-the art, vibrant wonder that immerses Guests in the magical, luminescent worlds of many Disney and Disney●Pixar characters.
9. The “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular entertains Guests from the tips of their toes to the sky high above, surrounding the audience with music, dazzling visual projections and other special effects that bring the pyrotechnics to life in surprising new ways. “World of Color” Dessert Party at Disney California Adventure Park

Beginning March 17, 2016, there will be a delicious new way to watch “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure® Park at Disneyland Resort!  Paradise Park will host nightly sparkling dessert parties with reserved seating and a spectacular view of “World of Color – Celebrate!”

Dessert party attendees can relax at seated high-top tables while enjoying a variety of sweet and savory selection of desserts, elegantly plated on china.  Desserts include a Dulce de Leche-filled cookie, Mickey Coconut Macaroon, a selection of fruit and artisanal cheese and more.  Since it is a sparkling dessert party, adults can indulge in sparkling wine, and those under 21 years of age will be able to enjoy sparkling cider.
