‘Tale of the Lion King’ Debuts at Disney California Adventure Park

An all-new, original outdoor musical theater production, “Tale of the Lion King,” has debuted at Disney California Adventure® Park at Disneyland Resort. This new stage show celebrates the characters and music of Disney’s “The Lion King” in an imaginative and unique way. The lead narrator, Mwongozo (Swahili for “guide”) leads a troupe of 18 performers called the Storytellers of the Pride Lands in this adaptation. The performance is presented in a contemporary story-theater style that retells the tale through language, song and dance.

“The approach that we’ve taken with ‘Tale of the Lion King’ is that this is a story that was passed on from generation to generation, and now it’s come here to Disney California Adventure Park,” said Susana Tubert, Creative Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment. “The Storytellers of the Pride Lands have come to share this ancestral story of how a cub became a king.”

Enjoy new musical arrangements of favorite songs, including “Circle of Life,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata,” among others. The live drumming and singing, along with the set and costumes all celebrate the cultural roots of this beloved Disney story. Check out our first peek below!

How You Can Make a Reservation to Visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park Between May 31 and June 23, 2019

If you are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort between May 31 and June 23, 2019, a reservation and theme park admission are required. There is no additional cost to make a reservation, but reservations are subject to availability.

Here’s how to make a reservation:

• Beginning today, May 2, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, visit Disneyland.com.
• You will need to be logged into your Disney Account and have the names of everyone who will be part of their Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation (up to six Guests total per reservation).
• All Guests will be required to have valid theme park admission in addition to their Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation information and valid government issued ID. The Guest who made the reservation (even if under 18 years old) and all guests aged 18 and over on the reservation will need to bring a government issued ID upon check in for their Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation. Guests under the age of 3 do not need a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation. Only Guests listed on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation with proper ID will be admitted.
• Once you make a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation, no changes or modifications will be allowed. Reservations are void if transferred or sold. Unused reservations will be forfeited and not replaced.

Guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel between May 31 and June 23, 2019, do not need to sign up for a reservation as you will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during your stay (one reservation per registered guest; valid theme park admission required). If you would like to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel and guarantee a reservation to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, rooms at the three Disneyland Resort hotels are still available. During the reservation period, access to the experiences in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be subject to capacity. Why You Need to Visit Disneyland - Right Now

Magical Travel (the travel agency that I work for) is currently running a great Disneyland Promotion. This promotion inspired me to let you know why you need to visit the original Disney park, Disneyland!  I know the castle there is smaller (but size isn't everything, did you know that you can go in Disneyland's castle!) but the magic at Disneyland Resort is the same, if not better. Here are my year-round, 7 reasons why need to go visit Disneyland - right now! 



Disneyland is Walt's Park
Disneyland is the park that Walt Disney built. It is the park that Walt Disney built, stepped inside of and got to enjoy (Walt unfortunately passed away before the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World was completed). Disney fans will appreciate being able to walk in Walt's footsteps and see the light in his apartment that is always kept on.

Little to No Planning Involved
Unlike Walt Disney World, where Advance Dining Reservations are a must at 180-days in advance and FastPass+ are required 60-days in advance, Disneyland requires very little planning. And the planning that is required, isn't 6-months in advance! Because of this a Disneyland vacation is more spontaneous and less overwhelming. Disneyland Dining opens 60-days in advance and MaxPass and FastPass+ are planned once you're in the park!  Disneyland is a much more relaxed, not overbooked vacation. Many of my Walt Disney World travelers feel as though they've booked their days in full and won't be able to change their mind about things - this is not the case at Disneyland.

Convenience
All of the Disneyland Resorts (Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa; Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Paradise Pier) are within walking distance of both of the parks! Downtown Disney is right outside of the theme parks! Everything is super convenient to get to and doesn't require an hour of transportation time - unlike Walt Disney World where a majority of the resorts require a bus, monorail and/or boat to get to the theme parks. The two Disneyland theme parks are also more intimate as well - less walking around during your day. And get those Park Hopper Tickets because both of the parks are within walking distance of each other! This allows you to maximize your time at the parks - if something has a short wait but it is in a different park, no worries, you can be there in 10 minutes!

Weather
The weather in Southern California is generally much nicer than the weather in Florida - especially in the summer! Disneyland was built in Southern California "where it never rains." In 2017, Anaheim got just 8.64 inches of rain compared to Lake Buena Vista's 48.33 inches! The average high for Anaheim is 79° compared to Lake Buena Vista's  84°! California is also a lot less humid than Florida. Sounds like pleasant weather is in store for your theme park days!

The Same, but Different
There are a lot of repeat attractions at both parks - Haunted Mansion; Splash Mountain; Space Mountain; and Pirates of the Caribbean - just to name a few. But guess what, these attractions are actually different at both parks! In my personal opinion, the better version of the attraction is usually at Disneyland! Don't believe me? Go see for yourself! There are also a lot of unique attractions and lands that are unique to Disneyland. For example, the wonderfully themed Cars Land - it feels like you're walking into the Cars movies - at Disney California Adventure! Some of the unique attractions at Disneyland are the fun Monsters, Inc.; Indiana Jones Adventure; Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!; and the Matterhorn Bobsleds (a Disneyland classic) just to name a few! Don't forget about all of the shows, parades and nighttime entertainment (World of Color) that are completely different at Disneyland!  I know food is a big part of travel too, the food at Disneyland Resort is some of the best theme park food I've ever had (this includes Walt Disney World!).

Special Events
Like Walt Disney World, Disneyland has their own special events to make your trip more magical! This includes Disneyland's very own Halloween parties and Holiday fun! Right now, the special event is Pixar Fest - something completely and totally unique to Disneyland Resort that celebrates all things Pixar. If you are a fan of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, you should really try out the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival!

If Disneyland is not convenient for you to get to for just a long weekend trip or you'd like to make a week long trip out of it - there is plenty for you to do! Aside from the two theme parks at Disneyland Resort and Downtown Disney, there is so much for you to do in Southern California! Have only done Walt Disney World once but think it is too soon to go back - Disneyland is your answer. Miss Walt Disney World but only have a long weekend to go? Disneyland is your answer! Mobile Ordering at Disneyland Resort

A new mobile ordering service will soon be available at the Disneyland® Resort!

Mobile ordering is just one more option that allows your Disney vacations to be more convenient. Place orders at select fast casual and quick-service restaurant locations using the Disneyland App from anywhere across the resort to be picked up when you arrive at the restaurant. 

Using the new mobile ordering service, you can easily search for a participating location, select an arrival time window for pickup, choose items from the menu and place your order. As an added convenience, Annual Passholders will be able to apply their discount to meal purchases using the app. Guests notify the restaurant of their arrival on the app and within minutes, an app notification indicates the meal is ready to pick up at a designated window – without ever waiting in line to order and pay.

Food Options at Pixar Pier

Throughout the newly reimagined Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure, there will be new experiences to discover – both big and small. 

In 2019 Guests will be able to experience Jessie's Critter Carousel. Jessie the yodeling cowgirl will invite you for a rootin’ tootin’ spin inspired by Jessie’s wilderness friends in the “Woody’s Roundup” television show from “Toy Story 2.”  This newly reimagined attraction is a classic boardwalk carousel with a whimsical spin.  Saddle up on one of 56 adorable friends, choosing from a turtle, snake, buzzard, armadillo, bunny, deer, raccoon, ram, skunk and two cozy logs inhabited by a family of owls.

And when Pixar Pier opens June 23, 2018 at Disney California Adventure® Park, you will find some new places to eat at!

The Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, inspired by the lovable and not-at-all-abominable monster from “Monsters, Inc.,” will be serving frozen treats.

In the “Toy Story” neighborhood of Pixar Pier, big appetites and small fries alike will love the Poultry Palace.  This giant fun meal inspired by Pixar’s short, “Toy Story Toon: Small Fry,” even comes with a Fun Meal Zurg!

Señor Buzz Churros, inspired by when Buzz had been switched into Spanish mode to offer, will be serving the quintessential Disneyland Resort treat - churros!

Further down Pixar Pier, Angry Dogs will be serving up some hot items – which is the perfect place for Anger from “Inside Out.” The more he burns with rage, the hotter the dogs get!

Pixar Pier Opening Date

Pixar Pier will open June 23, 2018 at Disney California Adventure® Park. This reimagined land will feature four whimsical neighborhoods representing beloved Pixar stories with newly themed attractions, foods and merchandise. Guests will enter Pixar Pier through a new marquee, pictured above, which will be topped by the iconic Pixar lamp later in the year.

The June 23 opening of Pixar Pier will also include the Incredicoaster – a super combination of character figures, lighting and special effects that will bring the Parr family racing alongside you in a high-speed adventure.

Also coming in June is a dazzling new float for the popular “Paint the Night” parade featuring Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone from “The Incredibles.” This new float will bring all of the fun and excitement of the Incredibles’ world to life with high-tech, pop-art effects inspired by the mid-century-modern style of the films. Dynamic and innovative visual technology will also bring Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack to life, showcasing their powers in surprising ways!

“Paint the Night” Parade makes its Disney California Adventure Park debut when the first-ever Pixar Fest celebration begins throughout the Disneyland Resort on April 13, 2018.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire

The new hyper-reality experience, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire by ILMxLAB and The VOID, has debuted to Guests at Disney Springs® at Walt Disney World® Resort, and is open at Downtown Disney® District at Disneyland® Resort. 

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire will transports you deep into the Star Wars universe, walking freely and untethered throughout the multi-sensory experience with friends and family. In groups of four, teams will go undercover as stormtroopers to capture Imperial intelligence vital to the budding rebellion’s survival.
