Walt Disney World Resort Foodie News: Celebrate Star Wars

With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge officially opening today at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, the Walt Disney World® Resort hotels are joining in on the galactic celebrations with their own special eats and treats! Each of these offerings are only available for a limited time, so be sure to get them before they disappear! 

Chewbacca Chocolate-Hazelnut Cupcake – A chocolate cupcake filled with chocolate-hazelnut spread and topped with chocolate-hazelnut buttercream and a chocolate candy sash.  Available now through Sept. 21 at Everything POP Shopping and Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

Wookiee Cake – A chocolate cake filled with caramel custard and topped with chocolate buttercream fur and a chocolate sash. Available Aug. 29-31 at Contempo Café at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Millennium Falcon Chocolate Pop – A milk chocolate lollipop shaped like the Millennium Falcon. Available Aug. 29-Sept. 7 at the Ganachery at Disney Springs®.

Chewbacca Cake – Full-sized dome cake available for pre-order with options of 4 different flavors. For more information or to place an order, call (407) 934-3500 or swing by the shop at least 72 hours in advance.  Available Aug. 29-Sept. 12 at Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs.

The Dark Side Dessert – Red velvet cake with cream cheese swirl and chocolate ganache on top of a sugar cookie. Available Aug. 29-Sept. 29 at the Beach Club Marketplace and the Market at Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort.

Yoda Cone – Lime Dole Whip served in a green cone and topped with white chocolate Yoda ears. Available starting Aug. 29 at Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

In addition to our hotel offerings, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is offering a few special Star Wars–themed items too! This includes the return of the popular Lightsaber Churros as well as the debut of a few new items like the Resistance Shake and the Galactic Funnel Cake.

Walt Disney World Resort Best Bites: August 2019

With new eats at both Epcot and Disney Springs, as well as a yummy new plant-based treat at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, you will definitely want to come and snack with us!

First up, though, is some exciting news direct from the Japan pavilion at Epcot. All sorts of dignitaries gathered to celebrate the official grand opening of Takumi-Tei. In attendance were, of course Mickey and Minnie Mouse! Takumi-Tei is the newest signature table-service restaurant at Epcot. It is truly an upscale, immersive, Japanese dining experience offering a premium multi-course tasting menu featuring traditional tea service and wagyu beef, as well as an á la carte menu and more. Inside, the restaurant’s tranquil interior features five dining rooms, each inspired by one of five natural elements: water, wood, earth, stone, and washi paper. 

While we’re on the topic of Epcot, you should definitely check out Coral Reef Restaurant. They recently added a few new items to the menu. On the appetizer list – you can try the new Seared Sea Scallops with saffron butter broth, tomato bruschetta, and crostini. New entrées include the Lobster Seafood Boil (with lobster, Jonah Crab claw, shrimp, mussels, Andouille sausage, corn, potatoes, ouzo-garlic butter, and spiced cioppino broth) and Grilled Swordfish (with warm white beans, roasted Cipollini onions, arugula, and lemon-herb vinaigrette). You will also find a new enhancement featuring one pound of steamed Maryland-style Snow Crab legs served with lemon and butter. And for dessert, you can try the seasonal cheesecake with a shortbread cookie and fruit compote.

At Disney Springs, there is a lot of news including three new additions, as well as new offerings at D-Luxe Burger and Earl of Sandwich. The first of the new additions is a new food truck called “Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet” featuring COOKIE DOUGH! That’s right, you can soon find edible cookie dough desserts at Disney Springs! On the menu:

• Springs Candy Taco – Candy Monster Cookie Dough, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry served in a waffle taco
• Minnie Mouse Taco – Peanut Butter Fluff Cookie Dough, caramel sauce, whipped cream, a cherry, and a chocolate Minnie bow served in a waffle taco
• Celebration Parfait – Celebration Cookie Dough with Celebration Mickey cake, vanilla custard, strawberries, whipped cream, and a cherry
• Mickey or Minnie Funnel Cake – funnel cake topped with powdered sugar and Mickey or Minnie-shaped cookie dough
• Cookie Dough Cup or Cone – Flavors include Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Fluff, Celebration, Cookies and Cream, Candy Monster, and Cold Brew

This new cookie dough-themed food truck will open later this month and will be parked near the other food trucks across from Candy Cauldron at Disney Springs West Side. 

Also coming later this month, a guest favorite from the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is heading to Disney Springs: Sunshine Churro! You will find Sunshine Churro carts at the Marketplace and West Side. These carts serve up a variety of classic and gourmet churros with flavors like watermelon, salted caramel, strawberry cheesecake, fruity cereal, and cookies and cream. You can even try churros dipped in milk chocolate or chocolate-hazelnut spread. 

And coming soon, Ample Hills Creamery will be opening a brand new location at Disney Springs West Side. The scoop shop will offer their popular handcrafted ice cream and mix-ins (like brownie bites, oatmeal lace cookies and butter pecan brittle) similar to the offerings available at the Ample Hills Creamery located at Disney’s BoardWalk. At Ample Hills, every component tells a story — from the ingredients, to the design of the pints, making it another “Instagrammable” foodie destination. 

On the savory side, you will find a new Pepperoni Pizza Burger at D-Luxe Burger topped with artisan pepperoni, fried mozzarella and Pomodoro sauce. And at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, if you haven’t had the new “Temple of Bacon” dish, then you're totally missing out! It comes with thick-cut Applewood-smoked bacon dipped in milk and chipotle chocolate ganache from The Ganachery. 

At Earl of Sandwich, you can try one of their new cheesesteak sandwiches! Choose between the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with tender chopped beef steak or the Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwich with grilled chicken. Both are served on freshly-baked artisan bread and topped with provolone, mushrooms, sautéed green peppers, and onions. There’s also a Veggie Cheesesteak Sandwich featuring provolone, mushrooms, sautéed green peppers, onions, and HP sauce. 

Finally, at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, if you are looking for a unique plant-based treat, definitely try the Sweet Thai Coconut Mickey Onigiri at Intermission Food Court. It features coconut sticky rice with poppy seeds stuffed with roasted mangos, mandarins, apples, and carrots wrapped in nori and is served with a sweet and sour fruit dipping sauce. Also at Intermission Food Court, you’ll find a Hades Cupcake offered the entire month of August. This chocolate cupcake comes with blue sour candy buttercream and a chocolate Hades piece.

Magical Holiday Happenings at All Four Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks, Disney Springs in 2019

It seems early to look ahead to the holidays and the many magical experiences coming to Walt Disney World® Resort in 2019 - but it is time for Walt Disney World Resort Guests to make their dining reservations for December so the timing is pretty perfect!  Here is what is going on at the four of theme parks and Disney Springs® this holiday season!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park – Holiday Festivities in Every Land For First Time

For the first time in its two-decade history, Disney’s Animal Kingdom® will introduce festive new entertainment and holiday décor in every land. Beginning November 8, 2019, when you cross the bridge to Discovery Island, you’ll find yourselves in the midst of a celebration of winter. By day, stylized, life-sized animal puppets mingle with villagers who make the island their home. As day becomes night, rooftop luminaries in animal shapes and bird lanterns throughout Discovery Island will bring a warm glow to the village.

Also, as the sun sets, the Tree of Life will awaken with a series of wintry tales emerging from within, backed by a heartwarming holiday musical score. Between awakening moments, the Tree of Life will shimmer and sparkle throughout the night, alive with the magic of nature and the spirit of the holidays.

Epcot –  Candlelight Processional, Holiday Kitchens & More

The 2019 line-up of celebrity narrators confirmed to-date for the popular Candlelight Processional during Epcot® International Festival of the Holidays was just announced. This special event runs Nov. 29 - Dec. 30, 2019, where you are invited to discover holiday cheer throughout Epcot and across all 11 World Showcase pavilions. You can book a Candlelight Processional Dining Package starting July 3!

Also at Epcot, from Nov. 29 - Dec. 30, 2019, Guests will be immersed in a vast world of holiday decorations and entertainment, themed merchandise, festive cuisine and costumed storytellers from the 11 World Showcase nations.

Special Holiday Kitchens sprinkled throughout World Showcase will serve up tasty treats inspired by treasured holiday recipes from across the globe. And pavilions will come alive with the sights and sounds of special entertainment celebrating each country’s holiday heritage with Santa and Mrs. Claus greeting Guests at The American Adventure pavilion.

You can also participate in Chip & Dale’s Christmas Tree Spree Scavenger Hunt to scout World Showcase locations looking for the famous chipmunks and their ornaments. Completed maps are returned for a special festive surprise, courtesy of the chipmunk duo.

And this year, with its premiere scheduled for Oct. 1, 2019, holiday Guests will be among the first to view “Epcot Forever,” a new nighttime spectacular bursting above World Showcase Lagoon.

Magic Kingdom Park – New Fireworks Show, Holiday Experiences

The skies above Magic Kingdom® Park will sparkle to life like never before during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party with the debut of an all-new fireworks show that can be enjoyed across the park!   The new fireworks show, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, will celebrate the magic of Christmas with medleys of beloved holiday songs, from “Joy to the World” and “Deck the Halls” to “Up on the House Top” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”   You will be able to see the fireworks show during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on select nights Nov. 8 - Dec. 22, 2019.

Along with this new show, each of this year’s 23 nights of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will feature performances of Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas and Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show.  And during A Frozen Holiday Wish stage show, Queen Elsa will magically transform Cinderella Castle with glistening ice.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios  – Sunset Greetings, Special Holiday Entertainment

Disney’s Hollywood Studios® is also rolling out special holiday shows, enchanting “snowfalls,” décor and more this season. And this year, you will be able to live your Star Wars story at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge where you may just find the perfect holiday gift from a galaxy far, far away.

Guests won’t want to miss the Sunset Seasons Greetings show at the park, featuring projections on the Hollywood Tower Hotel, amazing laser effects and “snow,” along with stories, songs and cheer courtesy of favorite Disney friends.

The nighttime spectacular “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” will treat holiday-goers to festive music, fireworks, special effects and state-of-the-art projections to a one-of-a-kind holiday experience at the iconic Chinese Theatre.

And as a curtain-closer, Olaf will be delivering a special holiday finale in For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along along with other experiences.  

Disney Springs – New Holiday Shopping, Dining and More

Guests who make a holiday list, can check it twice as they breeze among dozens of trendy brand-name stores and a large and varied collection of Disney merchandise at Disney Springs.  There are amazing dining spots to explore and this year’s live entertainment will include toy soldier stilt walkers, carolers and Living Statues in holiday attire. Holiday decorations set the colorful stage for Disney Springs festivities, which run Nov. 8, 2019 - Jan. 5, 2020.

If you are visiting the popular Christmas Tree Trail at Disney Springs this season, you will be treated to custom-decorated holiday trees, each dedicated to a popular Disney theme featuring characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and others.

At Santa’s Chalet, a jolly Santa Claus welcomes guests. From Dec. 25 - 31, 2019, Santa Goofy takes over after Ol’ Saint Nick returns to the North Pole.

And Guests invited to also join in Stitch’s Holiday Gift Hunt and discover where the mischievous Experiment 626 is hiding.

This is just an early taste of the holiday magic coming to Walt Disney World's four theme parks and Disney Springs this year.

Jaleo Opening at Disney Springs West Side

There has been much anticipation around the opening of Jaleo by Chef José Andrés, which celebrates traditional Spanish cuisine in a festive atmosphere. Today, we're happy to announce the wait is over – Jaleo at Disney Springs® West Side is slated to open for dinner on March 17, 2019.

This will be the fifth Jaleo location in the U.S., the first in Florida and the largest location to date. With a menu showcasing the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine, Jaleo popularized tapas dining in the U.S. starting with its first Washington D.C. location which opened in 1993.

Jaleo at Disney Springs will feature an extensive menu of tapas, the traditional small plates of Spain, as well as savory paellas, sangrias, and a selection of Spanish wines and sherries. The celebration of these flavors in an inviting, vibrant atmosphere is a hallmark of all Jaleo restaurants. 

Jaleo offers an excellent selection of embutidos (cured ibérico ham, pork chorizo, and spreadable cured sausage) and quesos (cheese from cow, goat, and sheep’s milk). The Queso Massimo, an Asturian raw cow’s milk cheese made exclusively for Chef José Andrés and Jaleo, is cured for four months with the pulp from Asturian apples.

A variety of authentic paellas cooked over a wood-fired paella pit are a highlight and are available by the plate or pan. Select specialty paellas are available each night with entire pans prepared to order for eight or more guests and presented table side.

Ensaladas y Mas options include Gazpacho estilo Algeciras, the classic chilled Spanish soup made with tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers; Ensalada de coles de bruselas con albaricoques, manzanas y jamón serrano, a delicious dish of warm Brussels sprouts salad with apricots, apple, and serrano ham; and Ensalada de remolacha con citricos which is a salad of red beets, citrus, Valdeón cheese, and pistachios with sherry dressing.

Perfect for sharing will be traditional chicken fritters (Croquetas de pollo) and Aceitunas modernas y clásicas – ‘Ferran Adrià’ liquid olives and gordal olives stuffed with piquillo pepper and anchovy. A traditional Spanish omelette with potatoes and onions (Tortilla de patatas clásica) is also offered for the table.

This incredibly impressive and varied menu also includes seafood dishes such as sautéed baby squid from southern Spain with white beans (Puntillitas salteadas con alubias); seared scallops with pine nut sauce, raisins, and PX reduction  (Vieiras con salsa de piñones); and Gambas a la Zahara – buttery, garlicky head-on shrimp prepared table side for guests.

On the restaurant’s front corner adjacent to the Jaleo entrance will be Pepe by José Andrés, the first brick and mortar location of the chef’s popular Spanish food truck. Pepe will be open for lunch and dinner beginning March 17.

Pepe by José Andrés Coming to Disney Springs

Jaleo by José Andrés is expected to debut this winter at Disney Springs®.  José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup will also be opening one of the first-ever brick-and-mortar location of Pepe by José Andrés, inspired by the popular Washington DC food truck of the same name.

Pepe by José Andrés, located right next to Jaleo at Disney Springs, will feature an extensive menu of hot and cold Spanish-style sandwiches including bocatas and bikinis, showcasing the best of José’s native country Spain.

Some of the delicious highlights include:

• Pollo Frito, made with breaded chicken breast, alioli, bravas sauce, piparra peppers, gem lettuce, and sherry dressing
• Serrano y Manchego, served on crispy Pan de Cristal with tomato fresco
• Bocata de Vegetales, made with roasted peppers, onion, green asparagus, spinach, and manchego cheese on Pan de Cristal

In addition to the sandwiches, Pepe will serve salads, soups and sides along with Spanish sangria.

The walls of Pepe are decorated with an elaborate mural by Marc Jesús, a famous Menorcan painter, featuring his ever-happy, blue-skinned female characters. The space, as well as Jaleo, was designed by celebrated Spanish designer Juli Capella.

New Retail Locations Opening Soon at Disney Springs

With over 100 stores already open at Disney Springs®, it’s hard to imagine there's room for any more. But there is! Soon, three new venues will be added to the property’s eclectic mix of niche boutiques and brand-name anchor locations, just in time for holiday shopping.

Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

Disney Tails: Opening Oct. 12, 2018 at Marketplace Co-Op, this is THE must-visit destination for pet owners who want to bring a bit of Disney flair home to their four-legged friends. With two existing character collections (Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse) and two new character collections (Haunted Mansion and Star Wars) will debut when the store opens, Guests may want to wait to finalize Fido’s Halloween costume until they’ve had a chance to visit – the themed comfort harnesses are just too cute! While most of the items were designed with dogs in mind, there are a few items that are “purr”fect for cats, too! In addition to leashes, collars, and bandanas, Guests will also discover squeaky toys inspired by favorite iconic Disney foods, because really, it’s not fair that only humans should get to indulge in Mickey waffles, Mickey ice cream bars and Mickey pretzels, right?

Lovepop: Steps away, in the center of Marketplace Co-Op, a new kind of greeting card will be arriving in mid-October. Lovepop is “more than a card” – it’s an intricate 3D paper sculpture designed on cutting-edge software, then hand-assembled with impeccable craftsmanship. Each piece is a gorgeous keepsake and with options for nearly every occasion imaginable, Guests are bound to find something just right for that special someone.

The Art of Disney Presents Greg McCullough: Slated to open on Nov. 3, 2018 in the space formerly occupied by Little Miss Matched, an art gallery featuring works by Greg McCullough – a fan-favorite when it comes to paintings of Disney characters and stories – will open for a limited-time engagement through Jan. 1, 2019. Greg McCullough will appear every day, except Mondays, from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Guests will have a chance to interact with the artist, have artwork signed, and possibly even catch him painting live. Original works of art, limited-editions, and prints will be available, alongside some unique pieces from his Disney Remnants and Abstract Remnants Collections – mosaic collections created by recycling unused oil pant.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, Basin, one of the most beloved brands at Disney Springs, is putting the finishing touches on a refurbishment of their store. With a mid-October completion date, the location will feel familiar but with lighter, brighter, fresh touches that will open up the space in a more modern way.

Walt Disney World Nighttime Entertainment

For many Guests who visit the Walt Disney World® Resort, an unforgettable highlight of their Disney vacation is enjoying one of the amazing nighttime spectaculars, or other entertainment offerings, with family and friends.

And there are so many options for thrilling nighttime fun around the Walt Disney World Resort!  From the splendour of “Happily Ever After” at Magic Kingdom® Park to the beauty of nature celebrated in “Rivers of Light,” at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, there’s truly an experience that appeals to every Disney fan.

Here’s a all of the current nighttime spectaculars and other evening entertainment you can enjoy throughout the summer at the Walt Disney World Resort. Don't forget to checkout the video below highlighting all of the magic!

Magic Kingdom Park
“Happily Ever After” – This 18-minute spectacular captures the heart, humor and heroism of many favorite Disney Characters and encourages you to find your “Happily Ever After.” It features moments from classic Disney films such as “The Little Mermaid" and “Aladdin,” plus modern favorites like “Moana” and “Zootopia.” Cinderella Castle serves as the backdrop of the show, with dazzling projections bringing heartfelt Disney stories to life on, around and above the iconic 18-story-tall castle. 

“Once Upon A Time” Castle Projection Show – This colorful projection show, hosted by Mrs. Potts and her son Chip from “Beauty and the Beast,” shares a captivating bedtime story that recounts cherished moments from favorite Disney films, including "Cinderella," "Peter Pan,” “Frozen” and more.

Epcot®
“IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” – This stunning spectacular combines lasers, leaping flames and fireworks, all synchronized to a symphonic score in a show that brings World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot to life at night. The show celebrates the spirit of humanity in three acts: The Earth is Born, The Triumph of Life and Hope for the Future, while a spinning globe helps narrate this lovely story with visuals that depict the history of humanity and the achievements of our time.

Disney's Hollywood Studios®
“Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” – This fireworks spectacular features state-of-the-art projection effects, dynamic lighting, lasers and pyrotechnics that light up the night like never before. The music, magic and characters of Star Wars combine with special effects and fireworks to put you inside iconic scenes from the Star Wars saga, including a new action sequence from “Solo: A Star Wars Story” that was added into the spectacular just a few weeks ago.

“Disney Movie Magic” – This projection show uses the Chinese Theatre as a backdrop for colorful projections of footage from Disney’s greatest films, including the Indiana Jones and the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.

Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
“Rivers of Light” – This nighttime show celebrates the connection between animals and humans through a story told by live performers, beautiful floating lanterns, glistening fountains, special effects and authentic animal imagery projected on giant water screens.

Tree of Life Awakenings – After the sun sets at the park, the wondrous animals carved into the Tree of Life’s trunk awaken. Every 10 minutes, a new story from the animal kingdom is told through a visually stunning display of vivid color and animated imagery – right on the Tree of Life.

Kilimanjaro Safaris (at Night!) – Explore the sights of the savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom like never before with an evening safari journey that looks at the nocturnal habits of the reserve’s many animal residents, including lions, elephants, hippopotamuses and hyena.

Pandora – The World of Avatar at Night – This land, which is lovely by day, transforms into an eye-catching bioluminescence paradise at night. Take a thrilling journey through one of the land’s two attractions – Avatar Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey – or stop into the Windtraders merchandise shop for items that also glow.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon® Water Park
Disney H2O Glow Nights – With glowing beach balls and other lighting effects, Disney H2O Glow Nights is a rare opportunity to experience Typhoon Lagoon under the moonlight. On select nights beginning June 21, 2018, Typhoon Lagoon will become a luminous, nighttime hotspot that features a DJ Dance Party on the beach, special character meetings with Buzz, Woody and Jessie from Disney·Pixar’s “Toy Story,” unique F&B and use of all attractions at the water park – with minimal wait times.

Disney Springs®
Shopping, Dining & Entertainment at Disney Springs – There’s a plethora of nighttime fun to be had at Disney Springs, with so many shops to explore and mouth-watering restaurants to try – not to mention the outdoor entertainment. Swing by The Edison, a lavish gothic-industrial hotspot, to enjoy live music, cabaret dancers and breathtaking aerialists; enter Forbidden Lounge, a perfect spot for late-night dining and incredible libations, discretely located atop Morimoto Asia; or kick up your heels at Raglan Road, an authentic pub transplanted straight out of Dublin, where step dancers perform on table tops and hearty brews and robust fare delight their taste buds.

Wine Bar George Opening!

Today, May 19, 2018, the doors to Wine Bar George will open at 5 p.m. and the first glass of wine will be poured at the grand opening. Wine Bar George is the latest addition to the dynamic food and beverage scene at Disney Springs® at Walt Disney World® Resort. On May 20, Wine Bar George will open at its normal daily service hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

The restaurant’s namesake, George Miliotes, is a Master Sommelier – one of only 249 in the world. Wine Bar George is the only wine bar in Florida owned by a Master Sommelier and will offer more than 130 selections by the ounce, glass, and bottle in a range of varietals, vintages, and prices.

This 200-seat wine bar is centrally located at The Landing. Guests can enjoy indoor seating with ambience reminiscent of a winemaker’s home or enjoy the sights and sounds of Disney Springs on the terrace with its sweeping views of The Landing and the waterfront stage.

Looking to dine al fresco at Disney Springs? The Basket at Wine Bar George will offer European-style sandwiches, cheese, olives, hummus, charcuterie, cookies, and wines on tap—served to-go by the glass or carafe.

Walk-ins are always welcome, and reservations for Wine Bar George will be available starting May 25, 2018 for bookings starting on June 25, 2018.
